FLOYD EMA DIRECTOR IS ‘CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC’ ABOUT THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

The world is a lot different now than it was a year ago due to the coronavirus outbreak, observes Tim Herrington, Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency. He adds there is no distinct timeline to determine when the virus related issues will subside.

Herrington hopes that local schools will be able to offer in-person instruction throughout the 2020-2021 school year with minimal interruptions. He echoes the sentiments of Dr. Gary Voccio, the Director of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest Health District, in that he is ‘cautiously optimistic’ about this new school year.

Floyd EMA continues to provide assistance to the Northwest Health District with testing for coronavirus. The local testing site is expected to move from West Rome Baptist Church to the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds on September 1st, according to Herrington. This is largely to cut down on the heavy traffic that has often inundated Shorter Avenue.

Herrington encourages all locals to remain vigilant in preventing community spread of the coronavirus via social distancing, wearing a mask and frequent handwashing.
