SWANSON LIFTS BRAVES TO WALK OFF WIN OVER DEFENDING WORLD SERIES CHAMPION NATIONALS

The Atlanta Braves edged the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals 7-6 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game NL East series at Truist Park. That victory (in addition to a Miami Marlins loss) allowed the Braves to again assume first-place in the division standings.

Atlanta secured the win with four runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a two-run homer by Adam Duvall and the game-winning two-out, two-run shot by Dansby Swanson.

That marked the first walk-off homer of Swanson’s career. Will Smith picked up in relief for Atlanta, although he surrendered a solo home run to Juan Soto in the top of the ninth.

The Braves have emerged victorious in their past three straight games. They hope to make it four in a row tonight as hosts to the Nationals. The first pitch is set for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.
