DPH PROVIDES UPDATE ON COVID-19 TRENDS IN GEORGIA

Nearly 297,000 Georgians have (or have had) the coronavirus, per the state Department of Public Health, which reported 1,571 new cases and 48 virus-related deaths on Tuesday.

According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 296,833 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. A total of 6,398 fatalities have been attributed to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 2,746 confirmed cases and 39 deaths. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 26,630 and the most fatalities with 556.

The DPH offered an update on COVID-19 trends in Georgia on Tuesday. The seven-day average of new cases declined by 11.3 percent from September 7th to 14th. The average is down 54 percent from the state’s peak on July 24th. In spite of overall testing numbers decreasing statewide, the positivity rate also continues to decline; it fell from 8.9 percent on August 31st to 8.1 percent on September and to 7.7 percent on September 14th. Daily hospitalizations have also decreased by 52 percent since a daily high on July 30th of 3,200. A total of 1,533 hospitalizations were reported on September 14th. Floyd County has been identified among the counties with high transmission indicators.

Governor Brian Kemp on Tuesday signed an Executive Order which extends current COVID-19 restrictions and provides guidance for the long-term care facilities. The new order runs through September 30th at 11:59 pm. It may be viewed online at www.gov.georgia.gov.
