RED CROSS HAS BEEN ACTIVE IN RECENT MONTHS IN RESPONSE TO DISASTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

The American Red Cross has been active over recent months in response to hurricanes, wildfires, home fires, flooding, and other disasters, according to Leigh Barba, Executive Director of the Northwest Georgia chapter. It is all a part of the Red Cross’ mission “to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and generosity of donors”.

Volunteers fuel the Red Cross mission, attests Barba. Ninety percent of that organization’s workforce is made up of volunteers.

Their disaster relief efforts are carried out quite differently these days due to the coronavirus pandemic, states Barba, who adds that measures are taken to to keep the volunteers, and those they serve, safe.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia seeks new volunteers, as well as donations. To get more information, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
