NL EAST CHAMPION-BRAVES WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH A LOSS TO RED SOX AT TRUIST PARK

The National League East champion-Atlanta Braves wrapped up their 2020 regular season with a loss to the Boston Red Sox 9-1 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game interleague set at Truist Park; it allowed the Red Sox to take the series 2-1.

The Braves’ lone run of the day was scored on a solo home run from Marcell Ozuna that tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.

But Boston was the tiebreaker on a solo home run by Jackie Bradley Jr in the top of the fourth inning. Xander Bogaerts added a solo shot in the fifth. The Red Sox tacked on five more runs in the seventh; that included a two-run shot from JD Martinez. Jonathan Arauz also homered and drove in a total of three runs.

Will Smith was tagged with the loss for Atlanta, while Nick Pivetta picked up the win for Boston.

The Braves concluded their regular season with 35 wins and 25 losses. They will host the Cincinnati Reds in Game One of their NL Wild Card Series this Wednesday at noon. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is set for 10:45 am from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
