Over 316,000 people in Georgia have (or have had) coronavirus, as the death toll nears 7,000, per the state’s Department of Public Health, which reported a total of 1,081 new cases and 34 virus-related deaths on Tuesday.
According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 316,306 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. A total of 6,994 fatalities have been attributed to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 3,183 confirmed cases and 45 deaths. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 27,650 and the most fatalities with 576.

The DPH provided an update about COVID-19 trends in Georgia on Tuesday. The seven-day average of new cases reported decreased by 30.4 percent from September 21st to September 28th. The average is down 67.7 percent from the peak on July 24th. The statewide positivity rate declined from 10.3 percent on September 21st to 6.3 percent on September 28th. That is the lowest positivity rate since June. Daily hospitalizations for COVID-19 decreased by 7 percent over the past week, from 1,415 on September 21st to 1,317 on September 28th. Hospitalizations are down by 58.8 percent since a daily high of 3,200 on July 30th. Once again, Floyd County remained among the counties statewide with high transmission indicators.
Governor Brian Kemp announced earlier this week that Georgia will receive over three million Abbott Laboratories BinaxNow rapid COVID-19 test kits by the end of this year. The tests will primarilly be used for schools and long term care facilities.
