The Wings Over North Georgia Drive-In Air Show will be a homecoming for a member of the US Air Force Thunderbirds’ maintenance team. The show is set for October 24th and 25th at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport.
Master Sergeant Thomas Clonts, a 2001 graduate of Armuchee High School, serves as Maintenance Production Superintendent for the Thunderbirds. This marks his third year with the team. MSGT Clonts says that it ‘means a lot’ to put on a demonstration in his hometown, especially in this year marred by the coronavirus pandemic.
The team will stay at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta while in Georgia for WONG, but MSGT Clonts intends to head up to Rome to spend time with his parents…and enjoy some of the restaurants downtown.
MSGT Thomas “Nathan” Clonts joined the United States Air Force in 2006; this coming January will mark his 15th year of service.
The US Air Force Thunderbirds will be the headliner for the ’20 Wings Over North Georgia Drive-In Air Show, which will also feature appearances by the US Air Force’s A-10 Thunderbolt II and F-16 Viper demonstration teams, and the US Army’s Special Operations Command Black Daggers Parachute Team.
