More than 333,000 people in Georgia have (or have had) coronavirus, per the state Department of Public Health, which reported 1,021 new cases as well as 27 virus-related deaths on Tuesday.
According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 333,304 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. A total of 7,454 fatalities have been attributed to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 3,461 confirmed cases and 49 deaths. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 29,274 and the most fatalities with 594.

The DPH provided an update about COVID-19 trends in Georgia on Tuesday. The seven-day average of new cases reported increased by 4.3 percent from October 6th to October 12th. The average is down 66 percent from the peak on July 24th. The statewide positivity rate declined from 7 percent on October 5th to 5.8 percent on October 13th. Daily hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have risen by 4.2 percent from 1,271 on October 5th to 1,325 on October 13th. The state’s hospitlizations have dropped by 59 percent since a daily high of 3,200 back on July 30th. Floyd County was not listed among the counties with high transmission indicators in this latest report.
All Georgians are encouraged by the DPH to get a flu shot. Says Dr. Kathleen Toomey, DPH Commissioner, “Now more than ever, influenza vaccination is critical not only to protect people from getting sick, but to reduce the burden on our healthcare system already caring for COVID-19 patients.”
