PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR URGES LOCALS TO GET A FLU SHOT, KEEP TAKING PRECAUTIONS IN REGARD TO CORONAVIRUS

Here is a reminder from Dr. Gary Voccio, the Health Director of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest Health District, to every resident of Northwest Georgia (especially if you are over 65) – get a flu shot! An uptick in flu cases, paired with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, could overwhelm local medical facilities, asserts Dr. Voccio.

Floyd County’s coronavirus positivity rate currently stands at approximately 11 percent, and Georgia’s positivity rate is a little over five percent, according to Dr. Voccio.

More and more in-person events are starting to be held around the area amid this era of coronavirus. Dr. Voccio indicates that indoor events pose a greater risk for transmission of the virus than outdoor events. So make every effort to maintain a safe social distance if you are indoors!

Dr. Voccio encourages special event attendees to maintain a social distance of at least six feet, wear a mask, and wash hands frequently.

The 2020 Wings Over North Georgia drive-in air show will offer outdoor fun to attendees this weekend. Tickets may only be purchased in advance and are available at www.wingsovernorthgeorgia.com.
