UNEMPLOYMENT RATES RISE SLIGHTLY FOR ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

Mark Butler, Georgia’s Labor Commissioner, has announced that Rome saw an uptick in jobs for September.

Rome’s unemployment rate stood at five percent last month, up slightly from 4.7 percent in August. The rate was 3.3 percent in September 2019.

The number of jobs in Rome totaled 41,900 for September 2020, an increase of 100 over August and flat in comparison to last year.

First time claims for unemployment insurance decreased by 10 percent from August to September in Rome. Claims rose by about 419 over this same time last year.

This metropolitan statistical area (MSA) also saw monthly increases in labor force and number of employed residents last month.

Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in September 2020, up from 4.5 percent in August and from three percent in September 2019.

Initial unemployment claims decreased by nine percent last month across this region, but rose over the year by about 603 percent.
