DPH PROVIDES UPDATE ON COVID-19 TRENDS IN GEORGIA; THE ROME CITY SCHOOLS SHIFT TO VIRTUAL LEARNING

A total of 1,623 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Georgia by the state Department of Public Health on Tuesday, in addition to 18 virus-related fatalities.

According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 353,372 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. A total of 7,844 fatalities have been attributed to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 3,956 confirmed cases and 59 deaths. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 31,038 and the most deaths with 619.

The DPH provided an update about COVID-19 trends in Georgia on Tuesday.

The seven day average of new cases reported increased by 15 percent from October 20th to 26th. The average is down by 59 percent from the peak on July 24th. The statewide positivity rate increased from 5.9 percent on October 19th to 7.2 percent on October 26th. Daily hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have risen across the state by seven percent from 1,314 on October 20th to 1,405 on October 26th. Hospitalizations have declined by 56 percent from a daily high of 3,200 back on July 30th. Floyd is among those counties statewide with high transmission indicators.

The Rome City Schools announced on Tuesday that it will make a transition from in-person to virtual learning from today through Friday, November 6th, as several schools have had issues related to COVID-19. Over 600 students, faculty, and staff members have been in quarantine due to possible exposure or positive test results.
