Remnants of Hurricane Zeta zipped through the Greater Rome area Thursday with strong winds and heavy rain. This resulted in widespread power outages, along with downed trees and limbs.
Tim Herrington, Floyd County’s Emergency Management Agency Director, indicates that wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour were reported in Rome. Several roads were closed because they were obstructed by downed trees and power lines.
There are a number of cancellations and delays on tap for today in the wake of Thursday’s storms. Here’s the list:
- Floyd County Schools are closed to all staff and students. Coosa and Model High Schools will both still play their away football games as planned.
- Rome City Schools have cancelled online learning and closed schools.
- Darlington School’s Pre-K to 8 division will be open, but their Upper School will be closed. Coaches and program leaders will be in touch regarding practices and after-school activities.
- St.Mary’s School is closed today.
