PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS URGE GEORGIANS TO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING SAFELY IN 2020

Public Health officials are encouraging Georgians to plan ahead and take the necessary steps to reduce their risk of exposure to COVID-19 (as well as the flu) in their celebration of Thanksgiving in 2020.

Holiday festivities will indeed be different this year, acknowledges Dr. Gary Voccio, the Health Director of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northwest Health District, who asserts that large gatherings outside of the immediate family ‘bubble’ could end up being a super-spreader.

The more you are around others in an enclosed environment, the more likely you are to be infected, asserts Dr. Voccio, who says that he does not want the local hospitals to be overwhelmed by superspreader events.

The DPH recommends that Thanksgiving celebrants wear a mask, maintain a safe distance of six feet from others, and wash hands often. And if you intend to travel, be sure to check travel restrictions before you go.
