DPH PROVIDES UPDATE ON COVID-19 TRENDS IN GEORGIA

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose by 2,452 in Georgia on Tuesday, per the state Department of Public Health, which also reported 12 more virus-related deaths. Two of those fatalities were in Floyd County.

According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 408,644 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. A total of 8,648 fatalities have been attributed to the virus. In Floyd County, there were 4,881 confirmed cases and 73 deaths. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 36,285 and the most fatalities with 656.

The DPH indicated in an update on COVID-19 trends in Georgia on Tuesday that the seven-day average of new cases reported increased 32.9 percent from November 16th to 23rd. The average is down 53 percent from the peak back on July 24. The state’s positivity rate decreased by six percent from 8.3 percent on November 16th to 7.8 percent on November 23rd. Daily hospitalizations for COVID-19 increased by 12 percent from 1,697 on November 16th to 1,901 on November 23rd. Hospitalizations are down by 40 percent since the daily high of 3,200 on July 20th. Floyd County is still among the counties statewide with high transmission rates, as are other Northwest Georgia counties.
