BELLIES, SOULS FED AT SOCIALLY-DISTANCED EDITION OF THE THANKSGIVING LOVE FEAST

The socially-distanced edition of the Thanksgiving Love Feast took place on Thursday at the Rome Civic Center. This year, those in need were given their meals to-go by the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County.

Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens, indicates that attendees stayed six feet apart from one another while they waited in line for their meals, had their temperatures checked before entering the building, and were given hand sanitizer. Every effort was made to safely provide meals to people at a time of great need, said Shields.

Reverend Shields expressed his gratitude to those who helped out at the 32nd annual Love Feast.

The number of volunteers was down this year, as many people who typically pitch in their assistance stayed at home due to coronavirus concerns, asserted Reverend Shields.

Angie Stone has volunteered at the Love Feast for the past two decades. She said that she was happy to see the other volunteers that were present this year and to feed those in need.

Shields indicates that while the number of volunteers declined this year, there was a slight uptick in donations for the Love Feast. He estimates that around 3,000 people were fed at the 2020 event.
