UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DROP IN ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

Mark Butler, Georgia’s Labor Commissioner, announced on Thursday that the unemployment rate in Rome dipped over the month by 1.2 percentage points to reach 3.7 percent in October. The rate was 3.3 percent a year ago.

Every metropolitan statistical area (MSA) across Georgia saw unemployment rates drop dramatically, some even to pre-pandemic levels, adds Butler.

Rome ended October with 42,600 jobs, an uptick of 600 from September and and of 100 from this same time last year.

Unemployment claims in Rome rose by three percent over the month and by about 740 percent over the year.

The unemployment rate in Northwest Georgia dropped over the month by 1.1 percentage points to 3.5 percent for October. That rate was 3.2 percent a year ago.

First-time unemployment claims across the region were down by two percent over the month but rose over the year by about 384 percent.
