ONE MORE DAY OF ADVANCE VOTING IN JANUARY 5TH RUNOFF BEFORE CHRISTMAS; ELECTIONS BOARD MEMBER ENCOURAGES VOTERS TO THANK A POLL WORKER

Just one more day of advance voting in Georgia’s January 5th runoff election remains for this week prior to a hiatus for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Voters of Floyd County may cast their early in-person ballots any time today from 8 am to 5 pm at the county Administration Building, located on East 4th Avenue, or at Garden Lakes Baptist Church, 2200 Redmond Circle.

Dr. Melanie Conrad, a member of the Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration, asserts that the turn out has been high so far for the run-off, but there have been no long waits at either early voting location. She encourages voters to get out and vote.

The eyes of the nation are on this particular election as it will determine who will hold the majority in the United States Senate. Incumbents Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, Republicans, are being challenged by Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. This has sparked an increased voter turnout locally; Conrad indicates that between 7,000 to 8,000 of the county’s registered voters had already cast their ballots in-person or absentee by the end of last week.

A post on Georgia’s Public Service Commission is additionally up for a vote in the runoff.

Whenever you go vote, Conrad says to take a moment to thank a poll worker. The poll workers and election officials have been working very hard through this holiday season.

One more week of early voting remains after this week. Both of the advance voting sites in Floyd County will be open on Monday, December 28th through Thursday, December 31st from 8 am to 5 pm each day. Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, January 5th, 2021, from 7 am until 7 pm.

It was announced earlier this month that Conrad will assume the role of Chair of the Elections Board next year.
