Today is Election Day in Georgia! Voters will decide via this runoff election who will represent this state in the United States Senate. Candidates include the Republican incumbents Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue and Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. The runoff has drawn national attention as it will determine which party holds the majority in the US Senate. A post on Georgia’s Public Service Commission is also up for grabs.
The polls across Floyd County will be open from 7 am to 7 pm. Locate your polling location via the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page online at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov. Absentee ballots will be collected through the close of polls this evening at the Elections Office on East 4th Avenue, the Rome-Floyd County Library on Riverside Parkway, Anthony Recreation Center located on Garden Lakes Boulevard, the Gilbreath Recreation Center in Lindale, and the Thornton Recreation Center in Armuchee.
Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson stated via the Sheriff’s Office’s page on Facebook on Monday that deputies and officers will be stationed at all voting precincts countywide today. Several county employees have received threats via email regarding this election, as have many others statewide. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating these matters.
In a time of great stress related to elections, here’s a friendly reminder by Dr. Melanie Conrad with the Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration – thank a poll worker, as they are working hard to do what is best for voters.
Statewide results from today’s runoff election will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ga.gov.
