GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WILL BEGIN THEIR 2021 SESSION ON MONDAY

The 2021 session of the Georgia General Assembly is slated to get underway on Monday, January 11th at the State Capitol in Atlanta.

Katie Dempsey, Representative for the 13th District in the Georgia House of Representatives, asserts that (as always) balancing the state’s budget will be among legislators’ top priorities this year. She also anticipates a ‘huge focus’ on election integrity in order to assure voters that their votes count.

The 2020 legislative session was paused by the coronavirus outbreak. When the session resumed, lawmakers were masked up and spread out to allow for social distancing. Dempsey muses that social distancing can be cumbersome to working together.

Similar safety protocols will be implemented for this legislative session, says Dempsey, who also expresses her support of Governor Brian Kemp’s decision to keep Georgia open as much as he has, as it has offered some stability to the state’s economy.
