February will be a busy month for the Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Highlights of the month will include the Scouting for Food program, part of a national effort to gather food for local food banks. Door hangers will be hung on local residences on Saturday, February 13th, states Mary Hardin Thornton, Council President, who adds that the scouts will return to these residences on Saturday, February 20th to obtain donations. This year’s local beneficiary will be the Salvation Army of Rome.
Around 4,500 pounds of food were gathered during last year’s program, says Eric Vaughn, Vice President of Marketing, who adds that if scouts don’t make it out to your neighborhood, donations may be taken directly to the Salvation Army of Rome.
The council’s slate of activities for February also includes the 2020 Council Banquet on Saturday, February 20th at the Courtyard by Marriott. The Eagle Scout classes of 2019 and 2020 will be honored at that event.
