UNEMPLOYMENT RATE RISES SLIGHTLY IN ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

The unemployment rate in Rome increased slightly from November to December, reports the Georgia Department of Labor. The rate was 4.8 percent last month, up from the previous month’s rate of 4.4 percent. The rate was 3.7 percent in December 2019.
Jobs were up in Rome by 400 over the month to total 43,000 in December, also up by 400 over the year.
Rome’s first-time unemployment claims rose by 77 percent over the month and 59 percent over the year.
Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in December, an increase from 4.2 percent in November. The rate was 3.6 percent back in December of 2019.
Initial unemployment claims across the region rose by 81 percent over the month and by 91 percent over the year.
Georgia’s unemployment rate was 5.6 percent last month, a slight decline from 5.7 percent in November but up from 3.1 percent back in December 2019.
