SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK CONTINUES WITH FOCUS ON THUNDERSTORM SAFETY

The observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week continues here in Georgia with a focus on Thunderstorm Safety today.
As indicated in a media release from the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, thunderstorms affect relatively small areas in comparison to hurricanes and winter storms. In spite of their small size, thunderstorms are dangerous because they have the potential to produce high winds, lightning, tornadoes, hail and flash flooding. The typical thunderstorm is 15 miles in diameter and can last up to an average of 30 minutes.
The Floyd EMA joins the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service to make this annual observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia.
