SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK CONTINUES WITH A FOCUS ON LIGHTNING SAFETY

The observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week ’21 continues here in Georgia. The focus for today, Thursday, February 4th, is on Lightning Safety.
Lightning is among the leading causes of weather-related deaths in the US. It often accompanies severe thunderstorms, which are very common in Northwest Georgia. Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, asserts that storms can wreak havoc to include flash flooding and even tornadoes. And in light of that, it is wise to be aware and prepared whenever severe weather is in the vicinity.

Severe Weather Awareness Week is an observation led every year by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service with cooperation locally by Floyd County EMA.
