SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK CONCLUDES TODAY WITH A FOCUS ON FLASH FLOODING/FLOOD SAFETY

The annual observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week here in Georgia concludes today with a focus (for this Friday, February 5th) on Flash Flooding/Flood Safety.
Although this is not widely known, flooding kills more people than any other weather hazard, indicates the National Weather Service. Nearly half of all flood fatalities are vehicle-related.
The NWS teams with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to make the observation of Severe Weather Awareness Week, with partnership locally from the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency. Tim Herrington, Floyd EMA Director, says that the purpose is to educate the public on severe weather and steps that they may take to be safe. It all starts with having a plan.
Herrington encourages locals to download the Floyd County EMA mobile app for severe weather safety tips. The app is available free of charge through Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
