CORONAVIRUS AND VACCINATION UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 1,872 new cases of coronavirus and 180 more virus-related deaths were reported across Georgia on Tuesday by the state’s Department of Public Health. Three of those fatalities were reported here in Floyd County.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 794,349 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 14,176. In Floyd County, there were 9,037 confirmed cases and 154 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 78,237, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 997.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard on Tuesday afternoon, 1,491,903 vaccines had been administered statewide; that includes 1,058,285 first doses and 433,618 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 27,542.

Free COVID-19 testing here in Floyd County will be delayed until 11 am this morning, according to the Northwest Health District. The testing site located on the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in Rome will be open until 4:30 pm.
