CORONAVIRUS REPORT FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, KEMP AND OTHERS PROVIDE VACCINE UPDATE

A total of 2,281 new cases of COVID-19 and 112 more virus-related fatalities were reported on Thursday by the state Department of Public Health. One of those fatalities was reported here in Floyd County.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 798,785 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 14,358. In Floyd County, there were 9,072 confirmed cases and 155 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 78,643, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,007.

As of the latest update to the DPH”S vaccine dashboard Thursday afternoon, 1,606,622 vaccines had been administered statewide; that includes 1,102,870 first doses and 503,752 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 28,401.

Governor Brian Kemp provided an update about vaccine distribution during a press conference at the State Capitol in Atlanta on Thursday. He was joined by the DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey and the Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency’s Director James Stallings.
