CORONAVIRUS UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 2,099 new cases of coronavirus and 121 virus-related deaths were reported in Georgia on Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health. One of those fatalities was here in Floyd County.

According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 810,473 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 14,882. In Floyd County, there were 9,236 confirmed cases and 161 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 79,706, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,034.

As of the most recent update to the vaccine dashboard Wednesday afternoon, 1,834,738 vaccines had been administered statewide; that included 1,182,713 first doses and 652,025 second doses. The number of vaccines administered in Floyd County totaled 31,164.

Governor Brian Kemp is scheduled to join DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey and Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency’s Director Chris Stallings today at the State Capitol in Atlanta for an update on COVID-19 vaccine distribution. The update is set for 3:30 pm.
