CORONAVIRUS, VACCINATION UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 1,593 new cases of coronavirus and 143 virus-related deaths were reported Wednesday in Georgia by the state Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 823,008 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 15,349. In Floyd County, there were 9,375 confirmed cases and 165 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 80,837, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,072.

As of the most recent update to the DPH’s vaccine dashboard on Wednesday, 2,154,840 vaccines had been administered statewide; that includes 1,321,331 first doses and 833,509 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 34,910.

The DPH’s Northwest Health District announced on Wednesday afternoon the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine with little demand at the Floyd County Health Department. Those who are eligible to be vaccinated should reach out to the Health Department at (706) 295-6123 to make an appointment.
