LIST OF THOSE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE CORONAVIRUS VACCINE EXPANDS TODAY TO INCLUDE TEACHERS

Today is the day that the list of Georgians eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine expands to cover Pre-K and K-12 public and private school teachers and faculty as well as Department of Early Care and Learning educators and staff, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (and caregivers), and parents of children with complex medical conditions.

Just 954 new cases of coronavirus and two virus-related deaths were reported on Sunday by the state’s Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 828,336 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 15,598. In Floyd County, there were 9,456 confirmed cases and 165 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 81,340, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,088.

As of the latest update to the DPH’s vaccine dashboard on Sunday afternoon, 2,353,304 vaccines had been administered statewide; that includes 1,423,397 first doses and 929,907 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 36,788.
