CORONAVIRUS, VACCINATION UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

A total of 1,185 new cases of coronavirus and 60 virus-related fatalities were reported on Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health. Two of the fatalities were reported here in Floyd County.

According to the latest update by the DPH issue just before 3 pm, there have been 831,271 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 15,706. In Floyd County, there were 9,508 confirmed cases and 168 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 81,624, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,105.

As of the most recent update to the DPH’s vaccine dashboard on Wednesday, 2,478,115 vaccines have been administered statewide; it includes 1,506,257 first doses and 971,858 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 37,710.

The DPH Northwest Health District announced on Wednesday that the Floyd County Health Department had the COVID-19 vaccine available. Those who are eligible to be vaccinated should call the department at (706) 295-6123 to make an appointment. The vaccine is also available at the Chattooga County Health Department.
