BIDEN ADDRESSES THE NATION ON ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF COVID-19 SHUT DOWN; LATEST CORONAVIRUS, VACCINE UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

President Joe Biden delivered a prime-time address to the nation on Thursday evening in light of the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 shutdown. His full address is posted at www.whitehouse.gov. Hours earlier, President Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that is intended to extend relief to those impacted by the pandemic.

A total of 1,262 new cases of coronavirus and 86 virus-related fatalities were reported in Georgia on Thursday by the state Department of Public Health.

According to the latest update by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 832,480 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 15,784. In Floyd County, there were 9,519 confirmed cases and 167 fatalities. Gwinnett County had this state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 81,716, and Fulton County had the most deaths with 1,114.

As of the latest update to the DPH’s vaccine dashboard Thursday afternoon, 2,540,760 vaccines had been administered statewide including 1,549,944 first doses and 990,816 second doses. The number of vaccines administered here in Floyd County totaled 38,646.
