The Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth has introduced a new initiative aimed at encouraging kids to read while they are at the barber shop or beauty salon.
Via “Books, Barbers, and Beauticians” , children are provided incentives to read to their stylists while getting their hair styled. Those incentives include snacks, gift cards, and even free hair care services, attests LaDonna Collins, RFCCCY Executive Director.
Current participants in the program include Wraps Styling Salon on East 2nd Avenue and Signature Styles located inside Hawthorn Suites. Collins hopes to add more barbers and beauticians in the coming months.
“Books, Barbers, and Beauticians” is co-sponsored by Amerigroup and the Rome Noon Optimist Club. For more information, contact Collins via phone at (706) 844-4952 or email at [email protected].
Collins also says that the application period is now open for the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth’s 2021 mini-grants. A link to the application is posted on the organization’s Facebook page. Deadline to apply is April 2nd.
