KEMP SIGNS OFF ON TAX CUT, INCREASE IN STATE’S ADOPTION TAX CREDIT; COVID-19 VACCINE DISTRIBUTION UPDATE SLATED FOR THIS AFTERNOON

Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation on Monday that will result in a tax cut for Georgians and an increase in the state’s adoption tax credit.

HB 593, The Tax Relief Act of 2021, allows single taxpayers and heads of the household an increase from $4,600 to $5,400 in their standard deduction. All married taxpayers who file separately will receive an increase from $3,000 to $3,550. Married taxpayers that file jointly will get an increase from $6,000 to $7,100, as outlined in a release from the Governor’s office.

HB 114 triples Georgia’s adoption tax credit from $2,000 to $6,000 per year, per child, for five years.

Governor Kemp is scheduled to provide an update about COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Georgia today, for which he will be joined by the Department of Public Health’s Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey as well as Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency Director Chis Stallings. The update is slated for 4:15 pm at the State Capitol in Atlanta.
