PLANE CRASH RESULTS IN ONE FATALITY NEAR CAVE SPRING

A fatal plane crash knocked out power for Cave Spring residents on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified by Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor as 79-year-old Bobby Allred of Centre, AL. Allred was the lone occupant of the single engine plane, which crashed into a cleared ravine just outside of Cave Spring city limits on Davis Road.

According to Sgt. Chis Fincher with the Floyd County Police Department, a witness observed the plane and reported the crash. Rescuers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Davis Road around 5:45 pm.

A fire about 100 yards from the plane was the result of downed power lines.

Georgia Power crews worked into the evening to restore power for affected customers in Cave Spring.

The Federal Aviation Administration has charge of the investigation into the plane crash.
