ROME’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECLINED IN FEBRUARY, AS DID NORTHWEST GEORGIA’S

The Georgia Department of Labor has announced that Rome’s unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in February, a decrease of 0.6 percent from January. One year ago, the rate was 3.7 percent.

Jobs in Rome increased by 300 over the month to total 40,600 in February, a decline of 1,100 over the year.

First-time unemployment claims declined by 39 percent over the month, but were up by about 163 percent over the year in the metropolitan statistical area (or MSA).

Rome’s labor force and number of employed residents both increased during the month but were down over the year.

Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate came in at 3.7 percent in February, a decline of 0.6 percent from January. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.

Initial unemployment claims in the region were down by 34 percent over the month, but rose by 288 percent over the year.
