BRAVES DROP SEASON OPENER TO PHILLIES IN EXTRA INNINGS

The Atlanta Braves opened up the 2021 season with a loss in Philadelphia to the Phillies by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday.

Philadelphia jumped to an early lead on a sac fly by Alec Bohm in the bottom of the first inning and made it 2-0 on an RBI single from J.T. Realmuto in the third. Atlanta tied it up on a two-run homer by pinch hitter Pablo Sandoval in the top of the seventh.

But the Phillies clinched the victory on a walk off single from Jean Segura in the bottom of the 10th.

Nate Jones was tagged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up that winning run. Starting pitcher Max Fried gave up two runs and six hits, walked a pair, and struck out eight over five innings of work. Connor Brogdon was credited with the win for Philadelphia.

The Braves have today off and will resume their three game series against the Phillies with game two on Saturday in Philadelphia. The first pitch is set for 4:05 pm at Citizens Bank Park. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 2:50 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
