The Atlanta Braves fell to 0-4 on the 2021 regular season on Tuesday with a loss to the Washington Nationals 6-5 in the opener of a three-game National League East series up in Washington DC.
Things looked hopeful for the Braves as Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a home run off the very first pitch of the ballgame by Max Scherzer.
Acuna had another solo shot in the top of the third inning, along with an RBI groundout in the seventh. Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson contributed solo home runs in the first and second, respectively.
The Nats secured the win on a walk-off single by Juan Soto in bottom of the ninth. Trea Turner clubbed a two-run homer that tied the game in the bottom of the third.
Will Smith took the loss for Atlanta, while Daniel Hudson was credited as the winning pitcher for DC.
The Braves will wrap up their series versus the Nats with a double header this afternoon at Nationals Park. First pitch of game one is set for 12:05 pm. The twin bill will be broadcast locally on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 10:50 am from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
In other MLB news, the 2021 All-Star Game has been moved to Coors Field in Denver, CO. The league opted late last week to pull the game from Atlanta because of objections to the recent changes to Georgia’s voting laws.
