Locals are excited about the return of the popular First Friday concert series to downtown Rome in June.
Rome’s Downtown Development Authority officially announced last Friday its plans to bring back First Fridays in 2021 on the first Friday of each month from June through September. The series will kick off with a performance on the evening of June 4th by the Andrews Brothers Dueling Pianos, says Megan Otwell, Director of Public Relations.
Line-ups for the remainder of the series are being posted nightly this week on the DDA’s social media outlets; look for Downtown Rome, GA on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
First Fridays were originally hosted by the DDA from the late ’90s until 2016 and were replaced in recent years by the Downtown Saturdays series, which was completely cancelled last year due to coronavirus. Otwell enthuses that this is actually a prime time to bring back a local favorite.
The concert series will move from its original location of Bridgepoint Plaza to the Town Green, says Otwell, who adds that parking over in the 3rd Avenue deck will be free.
Concerts will kick off at 7 pm. The First Friday concert series is free to the public, thanks to financial support of the downtown Business Improvement District (or BID).
