ATLANTA BRAVES NAB FIRST AND SECOND WINS OF ’21 SEASON

The Atlanta Braves picked up their first and second wins of the 2021 season on Wednesday over the Washington Nationals in a twin bill at Nationals Park in Washington DC by the scores of 7-6 in the opener and 2-0 in the nightcap. It allowed the Braves to take the three game set among rivals in the National League East 2-1 and wrap up their season opening road trip 2-4.

Highlights included a two-run homer by Pablo Sandoval during the top of the seventh inning in game two, his second pinch-hit homerun of the year.

Sean Newcomb struck out three in the bottom of that inning to earn the save. Luke Jackson was credited as the winning pitcher for Atlanta.

Ronald Acuna Jr. had three hits and two runs, while Travis d’Arnaud added a two-run double in game one. Josh Tomlin picked up the win, and Will Smith nabbed the save in that outing.

The Braves have today off and will play their home opener on Friday night at Truist Park versus the Philadelphia Phillies. First pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is set for 6:05 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
