GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: STATE’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECLINES AS JOBS INCREASE

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the state’s unemployment rate stood at 4.5 percent in March ’21, a decline of 0.3 percentage points from February. The rate was 3.6 percent in March ’20.

Georgia also saw its number of jobs increase significantly over the month by 21,800 to total 4,486,000, down by 151,000 in comparison to this same time last year.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler indicates that, “March is yet another month where we have seen job growth throughout the state. EmployGeorgia is showing triple the amount of job listings that we were seeing at the start of the pandemic. Georgia has gained a vast majority of jobs that were lost since March of last year, and we continue to remain strong in economic growth and business development.”

First-time unemployment claims rose by 29 percent over the month to reach 143,410, down by about 54 percent over the year.

The state’s number of employed people and labor force also increased during the month.
