LOCAL EARTH WEEK CELEBRATION BEGINS TODAY

The observation of Earth Day 2021 is this Thursday, April 22nd, though Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful has teamed with Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation to celebrate our home planet all week long. The Earth Week Celebration begins with a National Arbor Day Celebration today at 2:30 pm at Etowah Park. The public is encouraged to attend.

Earth Day has been observed since 1970 to exhibit support of environmental protection, asserts Mary Hardin Thornton, the Special Services Manager for Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation (and former Keep-Rome Floyd Beautiful Director), who adds that the observance has changed over the decades, as has recycling.

Earth Week updates are being posted on Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful’s social media outlets to include Facebook. The week’s slate of activities additionally features free recycling audits at the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center, located at 412 Lavender Drive, on Earth Day.
