BRAVES DROP INTERLEAGUE SERIES OPENER TO YANKEES UP IN NEW YORK

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Yankees 3-1 on Tuesday night in the opener of a two-game interleague set at Yankee Stadium in New York, which allowed the Yankees to snap a five-game losing skid.

Atlanta nabbed an early lead on an RBI double by Ehire Adrianza that scored Guillermo Heredia in the top of the third inning. New York tied the game up at 1-1 on a home run by Gio Urshela in the bottom of the fifth. That was the only run that was surrendered by Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton, who also gave up just three hits, walked two, and struck out six over six innings of work. The Yankees gained the lead when Aaron Hicks scored on a wild pitch from Nate Jones and added insurance with a bases-loaded walk to Mike Ford in the eighth. Tyler Matzek was charged with the loss for Atlanta.

The Braves will wrap up their series with the Yankees (and a five-game road trip) this evening at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:20 pm.
