ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES OPENER TO TORONTO BLUE JAYS; ROME BRAVES OPEN SET AT GREENSBORO WITH A WIN

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game interleague series at Truist Park; that ended Atlanta’s latest winning streak at two straight games.

The Braves nabbed an early lead with an RBI single from Ozzie Albies in the bottom of the first inning and a solo home run off the bat of Ronald Acuna Jr. in the third. Acuna now has a major league-leading 11 homeruns on the 2021 season.

But the Jays tied it up on a two-run shot from Vladimir Guerrero Jr in the top of the sixth. The Braves regained the lead in the bottom of that inning thanks to a solo home run by Marcell Ozuna. Here’s Joe Simpson with the call.

The Jays surged ahead of the Braves with three runs off AJ Minter in the top of the eighth; Guerrero led that charge with a game-tying RBI single. Minter was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Trent Thornton picked up the win and Jordan Romano got the save for Toronto.

The Braves will face the Jays again tonight. First pitch is slated for 7:20 pm at Truist Park. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM with air time at 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves picked up an 8-2 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Tuesday night in the opener of a six-game set at Greensboro, NC. The teams will meet again today at noon.
