MOTORISTS ENCOUNTER GAS PRICES, SHORTAGES IN THE WAKE OF CYBER ATTACK

Local motorists have encountered higher gas prices, long lines at the pump, and even gas shortages in the wake of the cyber attack and subsequent shut down of Colonial Pipeline. Governor Brian Kemp signed an executive order on Tuesday to suspend gas tax in Georgia and increased the weight limits for the trucks transporting fuel in order to provide more supply for stations in the form of deliveries. He also issued a State of Emergency that remains in place through May 15th at 11:59 pm with price gouging statutes in effect.

In a media release from the Governor’s Office, Kemp states,”We expect these measures to be temporary as Colonial plans to be fully up and running later this week. There is no need to rush to the gas station to fill up every tank you have and hoard gas. With the measures we have taken, I am hopeful we can get more supply to stations and get through to this weekend when we hope Colonial will return to normal.”
