ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN UP HOMESTAND WITH LOSS TO NL EAST-LEADING NEW YORK METS; YNOA TO MISS A FEW MONTHS DUE TO INJURY

The Atlanta Braves opened up a seven game homestand with a loss to the NL East leading New York Mets 3-1 on Monday night at Truist Park, marking the second straight loss for the Braves.

Atlanta starting pitcher Max Fried gave up just one run and five hits, walked two, and struck out eight before he exited in the seventh inning due to a hand cramp; he took the loss. Injury also plagued New York during the seventh as Kevin Pillar was hit by a pitch from Braves reliever Jacob Webb.

The Mets notched two runs in the seventh and another in the top of the eighth to take a 3-0 lead. The Braves scored their lone run of the evening on a home run by Austin Riley in the bottom of the eighth.

The Mets improved their lead in the NL East with a record of 19 wins and 16 losses, while the Braves are in third place at 19-22. The teams will meet this evening in game two of a three-game series at Truist Park. First pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, pitcher Huascar Ynoa is likely to miss a few months after breaking his right hand by punching a bench in frustration after this past Sunday’s loss at Milwaukee.
