ATLANTA BRAVES FALL IN EXTRAS TO PITTSBURGH PIRATES

The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 in 10 innings on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game set at Truist Park.

Pittsburgh struck first on a two-run homer by Jacob Stallings off Drew Smyly in the top of the first inning. Atlanta struck back in the bottom of the second on a three-run homer from William Contreras.

The Pirates tied the game at 3-3 on a solo homerun by Bryan Reynolds in the top of the sixth. Dansby Swanson broke the tie with a solo shot of his own to give the Braves a 4-3 lead in the bottom of that inning. The Pirates tied it up again on an RBI single from Adam Frazier in the seventh and secured the win on an RBI single from Kevin Newman and a sac fly from Gregory Polanco in the 10th.

Jacob Webb was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Richard Rodriguez picked up the win for Pittsburgh.
