ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE TO BOSTON RED SOX, SETTLE FOR 1-1 SPLIT IN INTERLEAGUE SERIES

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Boston Red Sox 9-5 on Wednesday night in the finale of a two-game interleague set at Fenway Park in Boston; that ended the Braves’ latest winning streak at four straight games and resulted in a 1-1 split in the series.

Highlights included yet another home run by Austin Riley; his solo shot gave the Braves a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

However, the Red Sox notched four runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. That was followed by a lengthy rain delay, after which Boston added another two runs in the eighth.

Drew Smyly was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up seven runs and five hits, walking one, and striking out four in five and one-third innings of work. Nick Pivetta got the win for Boston.

William Contreras drove in a couple of runs for the Braves to include a solo home run in the top of the ninth.

Hunter Renfroe and Rafael Devers both went deep for the Sox; Renfroe had a solo shot in the second, while Devers contributed a two-run homer during the bottom of the fourth.

The Braves are off tonight and will get back into action on Friday night with the first of three games in New York versus the NL East-leading Mets. First pitch is slated for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.

In a Braves injury report, Marcell Ozuna is anticipated to be sidelined for six weeks due to finger fractures that he sustained in Tuesday night’s victory over Boston. He was evaluated by a hand specialist in Atlanta on Wednesday.
