GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FOR ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA DECLINED IN APRIL

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that Rome’s unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in April, a decline of 0.2 percentage points from March. A year ago, the rate was 13.8 percent.

The number of jobs in this metropolitan statistical area (or MSA) remained flat from March to April at 40,700, up by 4,200 compared to this same time last year.

Initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by about three percent over the month and by about 90 percent over the year.

Rome’s labor force and number of employed residents also increased over the month and over the year.

The GDOL has also announced that Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in April, down by 0.2 percentage points from March. A year ago, the rate was 13 percent.

First time unemployment claims in the region dropped by 12 percent over the month and by about 92 percent over the year.
