ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN UP HOMESTAND WITH MEMORIAL DAY VICTORY OVER WASHINGTON NATIONALS

The Atlanta Braves opened up a seven game homestand with a Memorial Day win over the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Monday evening in the opener of a four-game set at Truist Park.

Atlanta took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added to their lead with a solo home run in the second from Ronald Acuna Jr, who is now tied for most homeruns in the majors with 16.

Charlie Morton was credited with the win after giving up three runs and six hits, walking three, and striking out six over five innings. Will Smith picked up the save.

Joe Ross took the loss for Washington, who was led offensively by Josh Bell with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth.

The Braves will face the Nationals again tonight at 7:20 pm. The outing will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, Marcell Ozuna was granted a $20,000 bond and released from jail Monday following his arrest Saturday on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and battery against his wife.
