PLANS ARE IN THE MAKING FOR THE OCTOBER OBSERVANCE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH; WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES TO RETURN – WITH A TWIST

The Hospitality House for Women, Inc. is making plans for the 2021 Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, which is set for Friday, October 22nd as a part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The walk was cancelled in 2020 due to concerns about coronavirus and delayed by rain in 2019.

Sponsors are now being sought for Walk A Mile, which will take on a 1970’s inspired theme of “Pumped for Peace”. Lynn Rousseau, Executive Director of Hospitality House for Women, Inc., says that the walk is getting a facelift with the addition of a new challenge via which law enforcement officers and other local leaders will compete for the title of Grand Marshal; the participant that raises the most money for the local non-profit will win the honor, as well as an opportunity to ride – rather than traipse about in their high heels – in the walk.

The plans for October’s observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month will also include a Candlelight Vigil and the Hospitality House Annual Public Meeting. Rousseau hopes that Phoenix Fest, a music festival that features all female artists, will also return this year.
